The theme for Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation’s 2019 annual report was “coming together,” I wanted to show a coming together of designs by using simple, bold shapes overlaying one another to create a sense of unity.

As we decided to end quarterly catalogs we transitioned into a quarterly direct mail piece that would be sent to homes to advertise for any events and registrations in that time period. Our hopes were to drive customers to the website to register and to use this mailer more as a sales piece to move away from the catalog’s original purpose. This is an example of the direct mailer piece that I created, I decided to design something that still had “call out” areas to highlight major registrations or promotions as well as a calendar to help remind customers of any events and registrations that would be occurring in the coming months. For this edition I was inspired by animation and comic books and illustrated some elements within the photographs to create a fun, bright piece for the summer.

I wanted earthy tones and illustrations that looked hand drawn to give a rustic, nature driven look for this report to add to the focus of Parks & Rec’s goal of enjoying nature and sustainability.

The Summer 2018 edition of the Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation catalog. The theme for this season was enjoying the outdoors and everything parks and rec has to offer. We went with a bright summery colors, screenprint feel to add texture and create visual appeal.

This campaign promoted our brand new event, Woofstock VB. The logo design merges the imagery of a peace sign and a dog’s head. I went with a 60’s hippie design inspired by vintage concert posters of the era. The flyer and sticker designs incorporate colorful swirls to mimic tie-die and illustrations often seen in that time period and a collage cut-out feel to recreate how some posters of the time were created.

This video was created to promote the new Ultimate (frisbee) League for VA Beach Parks & Recreation, this fast-paced and upbeat video is geared towards the college-aged crowd and encourages them to challenge themselves in this new league.

The Winter 2018 edition of the Virginia Beach Parks & Recreation catalog. The theme for this season was celebration and community. I decided to go with a crafty, chalkboard style which allowed me to play around with typography and give a sense of something being created by hand.
